- Class Descriptions
- Mixed Martial Arts
- Our MMA classes are primarily geared towards competiton. Many of our students compete in amatuer events and some of us compete proffessionally as well. However competition is not mandatory. Our MMA classes focus on everthing from takedowns, submissions, ground control, striking on the ground, etc. In our MMA classes particpants must wear MMA handwraps, 4 oz MMA gloves, a mouth piece, a cup, and shorts with a t-shirt.
- Muay Thai
- In our Muay Thai program you will learn to throw punches, kicks, knees, and elbows effectivly in different combinations. Much like our MMA program many of our students compete on a regular basis. Our Thai classes focus on everything from jumping rope, shadow boxing, bag work, focus and Thai pad work, partner drills, and sparring. In our Thai class participants must wear handwraps, a mouth piece, a cup, shorts with a t-shirt, and sometimes boxing gloves.
- Boxing
- The Boxing class will focus on the fundamentals of Boxing, and Competition. You will find that this is one of the most challenging things that you will ever do. Boxing will teach you to rely on yourself, to value the input of others, and most importantly to respect both your own skills and those of others. In the Boxing class participants must wear hand wraps, a mouth piece, a cup, Boxing gloves(14oz to 16oz), Head Gear for sparring, and shorts & t-shirt.
- Judo
- The Judo class will focus on traditional Judo technique with the gi, as well as application for no gi. Students are encouraged to purchase a Judo gi or Brazilian jiu jitsu style gi. The gi portion of the class will revolve around the development of break falling (ukemi) and the throwing techniques of judo (tachiwaza). Ground work (newaza) will also be covered. The no gi portion of class will require fight shorts and rashguards/t-shirts and focus on takedowns and throws in a no gi environment, from a judo point of view. If you're a Brazilian jiu jitsu student, judo will help you develop great takedowns for sport jiu jitsu competitions, if you're a wrestler, judo will help expand your knowledge of throws and footsweeps, if you're an MMA fighter, judo will give you many new ways to take an opponent off of their feet.
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position from which to force an attacker to submit via chokes, joint-locks, etc.... It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance. Since attacks, movements and changes in position can occur without a person physically seeing what their opponent is doing, "sensitivity" is major part of BJJ; therefore, time spent on the mat is of utmost importance.
- Wrestling
- Our Wrestling class will cover the aspects of Wrestling that are most effective in MMA. We will cover takedowns that aren't covered in the judo class, as well as defending takedowns and countering your opponents shots. Wrestling will help you dictate where you want your fight to be, and will teach you to transition from your stand up game to your ground game.
The GriffonRawl School has an ample supply of equipment that is available for the students to use. However
